SPOT STATION – display for spot price surfers
SPOT STATION is an overview display for anyone who wants to make the most of spot electricity prices. It shows the current spot electricity price including distribution, VAT and supplier margin – in other words the real final price per kWh that you actually pay or receive.
At the same time, the station can control SOLAR PLUG sockets, relays and wallboxes according to the current or future market price. Just choose a rule (e.g. the 6 cheapest hours of the day) and SPOT STATION will take care of the rest. This lets you heat water, switch appliances or charge your car at times when electricity is most cost-effective.

What does SPOT STATION display?
Every day, SPOT STATION downloads the spot price curve from the selected market operator, adds distribution, VAT and margin, and builds a clear “map of the day” from the result. At a glance you see when it’s cheap, when it’s expensive and how it makes sense to switch your appliances.
- • Spot price chart throughout the day – split into the energy component and the distribution component. You see how much is the electricity itself and how much is distribution.
- • Basic statistics – minimum, average and maximum daily price so you quickly know whether the price is currently “low”, “normal” or “high”.
- • Cheapest hours of the day – shows the times when it pays off most to heat water, switch sockets or charge an EV.
- • Most expensive hours of the day – useful for planning feed-in; you know when it’s better to send energy to the grid instead of consuming it.
- • Information about socket and wallbox switching – overview of which sockets/relays/wallboxes are currently on and which rule SPOT STATION is following.
The display is fully dynamic – if some data are not available, they are simply hidden and the space is used for the remaining information. There’s no need to switch anything manually.
In this short video you’ll see SPOT STATION in real operation – a quick overview of spot prices and control of connected devices based on the current electricity price.
Switching rules for sockets, relays and wallboxes
Every socket, relay or wallbox can have its own switching rule. SPOT STATION processes the prices for the whole day and, according to the selected rule, marks the hours during which the device should be on.
Standard rules
- Off (only calculates savings)
- 3 cheapest hours of the day
- 6 cheapest hours of the day
- 12 cheapest hours of the day
- 18 cheapest hours of the day
For active selling / peaks
- 3 most expensive hours of the day
- 6 most expensive hours of the day
- 12 most expensive hours of the day
- 18 most expensive hours of the day
Suitable for situations where you want to sell excess energy during peaks and limit consumption.
Advanced price rules
- Hours below the daily average price
- Hours above the daily average price
- Price below a threshold value
- Price above a threshold value
This way you can switch even at negative prices or enforce a specific price cap for charging or consumption.
The result is complete control – you can have one socket that runs only in peak hours for selling, another for cheap consumption hours and a wallbox that follows a completely different rule.
SOLAR PLUG and spot prices
Smart sockets SOLAR PLUG are the ideal partner for SPOT STATION. Each socket has its own rule – you can have one socket heating water during the cheapest hours of the day, another running a dryer only at negative prices and a third completely switched off.
SPOT STATION takes into account:
- the energy (spot) price,
- distribution (off-peak/peak according to settings),
- VAT and supplier margin.
On the display you always see the total price that sockets actually switch by. The station continuously calculates the estimated savings compared to the average price or a basic scenario.

EcoVolter + SPOT STATION – charge when it’s cheap
SPOT STATION can also work with the portable wallbox EcoVolter. For each wallbox you can set an individual rule – for example to charge only in the 6 cheapest hours of the day or only when the price drops below a specified limit.
Typical scenarios:
- Cheap night-time charging – charge only during the cheapest hours of the day, whether that’s an off-peak tariff or a cheap spot window.
- Taking advantage of negative prices – the “price below threshold” rule lets the wallbox switch only at exceptionally low or negative prices.
- Blocking expensive peaks – you can use the “hours above daily average price” rule as a block, ensuring the wallbox never turns on at high prices.
This way you charge your EV at the times when it pays off most – without having to monitor the exchange or your supplier’s app every day.
Hardware and battery life
SPOT STATION is built on the ESP32 platform, which is very energy-efficient and stable. The display is a black-and-white e-ink panel – similar to what you know from e-book readers. The image updates only when needed and consumes practically no energy between refreshes.
In normal operation, the station only wakes up for the time needed to download prices and recalculate rules. If you don’t use SOLAR PLUG switching heavily, the battery life on a single charge is typically a matter of months, and with very frugal use even 1–2 years.
The firmware is OTA updatable – new features, extended rules or additional market operators appear automatically, with no user intervention needed.
Languages and market operators
The SPOT STATION user interface is fully localized into the following languages:
- English
- German
- Czech
- Polish
The station supports a wide range of market operators, for example:
- OTE CZ (CZK/kWh) – Czech Republic
- OKTE SK (cent EUR/kWh) – Slovakia
- PSE PL (gr/kWh) – Poland
- EPEX SPOT DE / AT (cent EUR/kWh) – Germany, Austria
- ELPRIS SE1–SE4 – Sweden
- SPOT HINTA DK/EE/FI/LT/LV/NO – Scandinavia and the Baltics
- NORDPOOL AT/BE/FR/GER/NL/PL – Central and Western Europe
If a specific operator or region is missing, just contact us – SPOT STATION is designed so that support can easily be extended.
SPOT STATION customer reviews
How SPOT STATION helps in real-world useEvery morning I know when the washing machine will run
I have SPOT STATION stuck on the fridge. In the morning I look at when the cheapest hours are and we plan the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher accordingly. The SOLAR PLUG sockets already switch by themselves – I just see that we’re staying in the cheap part of the day.
Selling at spot prices finally makes sense
I have a PV plant without a battery and send part of my production to the spot market. SPOT STATION shows me the expensive hours so I know when not to heat water and instead leave the surplus for the exchange. I no longer have to switch between apps – a glance at the wall is enough.
Great price overview for the whole family
I used to have a printed chart with hours on the fridge, now SPOT STATION hangs there. The kids now know on their own that “green hours” are cheap and “dark grey” are expensive – and they turn the dryer on accordingly. I’d just welcome a few more filtering options, but the basics work brilliantly.
